The Coastal Classic, to be held 6 September in Royal National Park, is a 30 km off-road adventure that showcases some of Australia’s most breathtaking scenery. From rocky paths and sandy stretches to cliff-top views and dense rainforest, the course challenges even the most experienced runners. The constant shift in terrain, however, can place a massive amount of stress on the feet, leading to fatigue, discomfort and common issues like overpronation.
This year’s Coastal Classic has already reached capacity, but if you’re one of the lucky runners with a spot, now is the time to make sure your body is ready for the challenge.
Why Orthotics Matter on Uneven Terrain
Whilst running long distances on such unpredictable ground requires strong legs of course, it also calls for a stable foundation. Custom orthotics are designed to help the feet work more efficiently, keeping alignment in check and reducing strain on the ankles, knees and hips.
Giving Runners the Edge
For trail runners, consistency is key. Orthotics can help distribute pressure more evenly, which means less risk of hot spots or early fatigue. Over the course of 30 km, small adjustments like this can lead to a big difference in performance and recovery.
Dr Cindy Leung (Chiropractor) explains, “When runners feel more comfortable and balanced, they can focus on the experience itself rather than worrying about every step.” (And when the scenery is as good as it is along the Coastal Classic, that’s worth a lot.)
